The long bunker shot is one of the most feared shots in the game, this partly because unless it is clinically precise, there is so much that can go wrong.
For a shot of more than say 40 to 50 yards, use your lob wedge rather than your sand wedge to ensure you get some distance with your shot.
You should also make sure you strike the sand just behind the back of the ball and find the right distance via the strength of your follow through.
Aim at the target and don't open your face very much.
But most important - practice this advise before you step into a bunker to strike a long bunker shot that's going to win or lose you the monthly medal,
