Williams golf creates a stir

The most attention-grabbing item of eqipment at this year's PGA Merchandise Show has to be the Williams range of Black Diamond golf clubs.
The set comes complete with a driver that has solid gold insets and a set of gold-plated irons and yes, you guessed right, they cost a fortune.
The princely sum of $50,000 to be exact.
This particular set of clubs has, of course, been manufactured as a showpiece to help draw attention to The Williams F1 racing team's first venture into the world of golf, but for the wealthy who may want to buy this spectacular set, it comes with a wide array of perks that includes a customized fitting by an expert who will fly anywhere to fit you, an Italian leather handbag and VIP treatment at a Formula One race.
To your run-of-the-mill club golfer, though, Williams are offering a Players Series set that includes a driver for $500 - and according to those who tested it at a Demo Day in California's Orange County this week, it has some extremely impressive qualities..
And why not?
Williams F1 are a high-tech organisation specializing in making the best use of strong, but super lightweight materials and then shaping them using the most sophisticated aerodynamics known to man.
Aerodynamics are almost certainly behind the fan like ridges that gives the bottom of their driver a unique look.
Williams are one of the most competitive and longest-surviving teams in Formula One racing, so we don't see their entry into golf as being a passing fad.
They seem to be as serious about what they are doing in golf as they have always been in Formula One racing.
