Club de Campo Villa de Madrid, where this week's inaugural Madrid Masters is to be played, can boast at having easily the best course in Madrid and arguably in all of Spain.

It has two 18 hole championship courses - the masterpeice Black Course which was designed by famed Spanish golf architect Javier Arana in 1984 and has hosted eight Spanish Opens and five Madrid Opens, and the Amatillo (Yellow) Course which is a Seve Ballesteros signiture course.

The Club de Campo Villa de Madrid was orginally formed in 1929, and is today one of Continental Europe's largest sports clubs, for apart from its two championship golf courses and all the other facilties that go with a top-notch golf club, it also offers excellent infrastructure for a wide range of other sports ranging from tennis to motor racing at the nearby Jarama track.

It's up-market Grand Clubhouse houses among all the usual facilties, a high-quality restaurant and spike bar, a gymnasium and a sauna - and fantastic views of it's beautiful courses and the breath-taking Madrid skyline.

Both courses are subtly crafted amidst the beautiful countryside with a mixed parkland style layout that sees the courses winding their way through the hills and surrounding forests of aged pine and oak trees.

The par-71 Black Course is just 6,970 yards long and has been described as a superior parkland layout with elevated greens and wide fairways dotted with numerous sand bunkers and stands of trees which form the major obstacles on this challenging Arana course.
