PULA GOLF

Pula Golf, where this week's European Tour event, the Mallorca Classic, is to be played, is a relatively new club which nestles on the island of Mallorca at Son Servera.

Pula's 18-hole Championship course, framed by the renowned natural parks of Son Servera and the beautiful Bay of Calla Millor, was founded in 1995, but has subsequently undergone extensive redesign work by Jose Maria Olazabal.

The Spanish club and everything that goes with it was established with the idea of offering its clients a luxurious combination of golf, gastronomy and accommodation in a "pleasant, privileged and exclusive location - and it has succeeded handsomely.

THE GOLF COOURSE:

Pula was founded in 1995, but since then has undergone substantial redesign work under the guidance of one of Spain's foremost professionals, two-time Masters winner Jose Maria Olazabal

Six holes were completed in 2004, another six in 2005 and the final six in 2006 and today Pula Golf can boast that its par-70,6,105 metre course is the longest and most demanding in Majorca and has been the venue for many important Spanish tournaments, both professional and amateur.

Along with the last five Mallorca Classics and the Peugeot Circuit's OKI championship, these include the men's and junior Spanish Amateur championships.

You can see the green from the tee at 14 of its parkland holes, even off the back tees, but you will need to hit a good drive if you are to see the green while making your second shot on the other four holes.

Men's tees: Yellows 5.648mts; Whites 6.006mts.

Lady's tees: reds 4.980mts; blues 5.179mts

Par: 72 to club golfers, but a par 70 to the professionals

- An especially large driving range with two putting greens and a pitching area with a green

- A well-stocked pro-shop called 'Handicap' which sells an extensive range or golf equipment and clothing

- An outstanding hotel, the Petit Hotel Ses Cases De Pula, which is situated next to the golf course. The original building, 'an antique finca' dates back to the year 1581, but was extensively up-graded in 1997 with lots of style and converted to a hotel of 10 suites, each one with an individual and different design and with all the comforts of modern life including, Satellite-TV, HiFi, and a Minibar, etc., without loosing its original charm.
