STOP PUTTING YOUR FOOT IN IT, TIGER

22-03-2010 14:32

Tiger Woods and his management team are not making too many people happy right now.

Indeed, every time the World No 1 takes a step towards re-entering public life, he seems to put his foot in it.

He did it in February when he arranged a press conference to apologize to all and sundry for his serial infidelities - and yes, he's done it again now.

It was bad enough that the February event w...

AMAZING COACHELLA VALLEY

22-01-2010 14:20

Geographically the Coachella Valley, of which La Quinta is part, is the northwestern extension of the Colorado Desert so I was stunned when day two of the five-day Bob Hope Classic was washed out.

It is being played over four courses in the La Quinta area not too far south of wealthy Palm Desert and the famed Palm Springs, the holiday playground of many Hollywood celebrities of today and yester...

JACK NICKLAUS: MAN IN MANY MILLIONS

19-01-2010 14:36

There is so much you can say about Jack Nicklaus, who at 70 can still claim to be the greatest golfer of all time.

There are, of course, people, including himself, who feel he might not always be right up there on top of the pile, even in his own lifetime, but at the moment there is a huge question mark hanging over Tiger Woods, the only pursuer with any hope of surpassing Jack's incredible re...

WHAT NOW FOR TIGER'S GOLF?

07-12-2009 14:11

One big question nobody seems to be asking about Tiger Woods since his now famous crash opened up a can of worms is how will his golf be affected?

Nobody in the sport is made of sterner stuff, to be sure. Woods' tigerish determination and laser-sharp focus are legendary.

I mean how many times has he been able to sink a vital putt at a critical moment or turn a precarious situation into a mat...

WHAT TO GIVE TIGER FOR CHRISTMAS?

23-11-2009 12:29

I'm hoping Santa will bring me a nice new TaylorMade cart bag to go with my woods, but just what do you give a millionaire golfer for Christmas?

A billionaire or perhaps near billionaire like Tiger Woods can buy almost anything his heart desires, but his problem is that he already has just about everything a man could ever want.

Apart from great job satisfaction, a seriously gorgeous wife an...

CAN WIE BRING BACK DAYS OF PLENTY?

17-11-2009 14:01

When Michelle Wie was foolishly trying to make a name for herself in men's golf, nobody was a greater critic of her and her money-hungry handlers than I.

No longer. Things are different now.

In the bad old days I was amazed, indeed angered, at the way her father and the others in her camp turned the hugely talented teenager into a floundering circus act by continuously throwing her into wate...

NOT A GOOD START, TIM

03-11-2009 13:49

The US PGA Tour have not handled the announcement of US golf's first doping violation very well at all.

They have found guilty and suspended for a year a 40-year-old journeyman golfer, one Doug Barron, whose only claim to fame is that in 2006 he was widely pictured playing a shot out of water hazard without wearing a shirt, but they refused to name the crime he has committed - ie the offending...

KIM - A NEW JOHN DALY?

13-10-2009 14:34

The last thing Robert Allenby expected on Sunday was for Anthony Kim to come out firing at the top his game.

Not after what he had been told by friends who said they saw Kim arriving back at his US team hotel at around 4 am in the morning, and in Allenby's words, "walking sideways".

And this just five hours before he was due to tee-off in Sunday's final round of singles at the Presidents Cup...

FEDEX CUP: WHO'S WHO IN THE ZOO

21-09-2009 17:45

Tiger Woods, as expected, leads the 30 elite golfers who have qualified to fight it out for the pot of golfing gold riding on this week's Tour Championship, but this only because of his victory at the BMW Championship a week ago.

Before that he had been sitting in second position behind fellow American Steve Stricker who seems to have the knack of coming up with the goods when the season reache...

FEDEX CUP IS CUT-THROAT

31-08-2009 15:25

A handful of the golfs biggest stars earn as much from their sponsorships as some of the best athletes in the other high profile sports earn as a wage.

Tiger Woods, who is reputed to pull in something between $80 and $100 million dollars in advertising revenue in a single year, is one of them, Phil Mickelson ($40 to $50 million) another.

But in general your regular Tour player has, week aft...
