WILD THINGS

01-09-2010 14:04

On Sunday night at the Gleneagles Hotel Ryder Cup Captain Colin Montgomerie confirmed the 12 players and four vice captains who will make up the 2010 European Ryder Cup Team.

I'm sure you were watching or have heard but the European Team is made up of Lee Westwood, Rory McIlroy, Martin Kaymer and Graeme McDowell from the World Points List, Ian Poulter, Ross Fisher, Francesco Molinari, Miguel An...

MAJOR LESSONS

17-08-2010 08:37

It's been a very interesting year of golf so far and I've learnt a lot between this year's majors starting with the Masters in April and finishing with USPGA Championship on Sunday.

If women don't wear underwear it's considered erotic but if men don't wear underwear it's considered perverted. The first Grouse of the season are too expensive at £25 a brace and one should wait till October...

SOLVING THE PGA PUZZLE

11-08-2010 07:38

This week the last major championship of the 2010 season gets underway at Whistling Straits on the shores of Lake Michigan.

Let's have a look at what's the players can expect this week.

At just over 7,500 yards Whistling Straits is the second longest course in major history. Length off the tee is always an advantage but it is not a prerequisite to winning. The fairways are generous in width...

CINK OR SWIM

04-08-2010 16:43

During a great week of racing at 'Glorious Goodwood', Blazer, the Headmaster and I had the first tee time at Goodwood Golf Course. It's one of my favourite courses with a wide variety of holes that meander through and over the valley behind the racecourse offering some outstanding views across West Sussex to the Isle of Wight.

After a good start we were on target to beat Ian Poulter's score of...

HOME SWEET HOME!

14-07-2010 14:26

The weather is absolutely miserable at St Andrews and few players have ventured out on the last practice day. I'm ducking for shelter after a cracking night at the Annual Golf Writers Dinner where Lee Westwood received the 'Golf Writers Player of the Year Award'.

He was very gracious in victory and also very funny. The highlight being when he looked over at PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem say...

NATIONAL DEBT

30-06-2010 11:10

Having given careful consideration to all the facts I have come to a Sherlock Holmes style deduction. It is unsafe to travel large distances after drinking a handful of martinis and therefore it may prove prudent in the long term to move closer to the source.
My hand has been forced and a permanent relocation to within crawling distance of the Egerton House Hotel is underway.
Just don't tell my...

KEEPING KARMA

15-06-2010 22:27

If you believe in Karma all deeds are viewed as actively shaping past, present and future experiences or in laymen's terms performing positive actions results in good experiences and negative actions result in bad effects.

As I walked out of the newsagents this morning I saw an old lady struggling to get off the bus and with Royal Ascot and the U.S. Open on I could use some good karma so I was...

TOP HAT

09-06-2010 15:27

What a brilliant weekend. Workforce won the Derby in a record time, England beat Romania 13-7 in the Ryder Cup, Graeme McDowell and Justin Rose played exceptional final rounds to gain notable victories in Europe and America, the Wise One tipped two winners for a 30 point profit and the place part of my 560-1 Ryan Moore double came in.

Derby Day was superb. I didn't throw my top hat in the air w...

SHAKEN NOT STIRRED

03-06-2010 07:59

James Thurber once said: "One Martini is all right, two is too many and three is not enough." Last Bank Holiday Monday I scored a Martini hat-trick and as consequence seriously struggled to make the flight to The Players Championship the next day. The Irish girl warned me never to have three again.

This Bank Holiday Monday 'The Headmaster' failed to show up for golf having let off too much st...

DAYDREAMING AGAIN

26-05-2010 13:47

I don't know about you but I love daydreaming. After playing a top golf course or watching a Major tournament occasionally the mind wanders and I find myself battling with Tiger Woods down the stretch and holing a putt to become the first amateur since Bobby Jones in 1930 to win The Open.

Even for the majority of professional golfers (and if you think about there are 10,000s around the globe)...
