HARRY THE HAT: BEWARE THE WATERY GRAVE

03-03-2010 20:28

After eight weeks playing in Hawaii, California and Arizona the PGA Tour moves to the East Coast.

For the fourth consecutive year the Champions Course at the PGA National is the host course for this week's Honda Classic. Each year it has ranked in the top 10 most difficult courses on Tour and Padraig Harrington described it as " big tough golf course - one of the toughest on Tour."

The winn...

DAVE TINDALL: WHY I VOTED 'YES'

24-02-2010 13:46

A new Golf365 polls shows that viewers were unimpressed by Tiger Woods' performance in the front of the cameras last Friday.

Woods fought back tears as he issued a full and frank apology for cheating on his wife and that prompted us to ask the question: "Was it a good first step in rebuilding his damaged reputation?

Although "Yes" (36%) outweighed the vote for "No, he made things worse" (22%...

NEVILLE LECK: AMAZING COACHELLA VALLEY

22-01-2010 14:20

Geographically the Coachella Valley, of which La Quinta is part, is the northwestern extension of the Colorado Desert so I was stunned when day two of the five-day Bob Hope Classic was washed out.

It is being played over four courses in the La Quinta area not too far south of wealthy Palm Desert and the famed Palm Springs, the holiday playground of many Hollywood celebrities of today and yester...

MATTHEW FREEMANTLE: DRUG PROBLEM

14-10-2008 17:21

Now a few months on from Gary Player's outlandish claim that he knew of at least 10 players taking drugs on tour, there is still no testing I have heard of.
Certainly, Player is a thunder-stealing egomaniac at the best of times. He has been doing it for years, from claiming to be the adult with the most air miles in history to scrabbling around for the praise when a young South African wins somet...

HARRY THE HAT: READY TO ROAR!

25-02-2010 15:08

I've visited my fair share of stadia so far this year including The Wanderers, Sun Life Stadium and last night the San Siro.

There was a pretty lively atmosphere at The Wanderers for the Fourth Test match thanks to the Barmy Army and the South African supporters who couldn't be described as shy and retiring types.

Mind you they didn't get anywhere near filling the 34,000 seats on offer and...

MATT COOPER: THE TIM CLARK DILEMMA

27-01-2010 14:53

South Africa's Tim Clark has been a regular on the PGA Tour since the start of the 2002 season. He has finished in the top ten on 36 occasions, 16 of those being top five.

In that time he has also won four Open titles worldwide: two South Africans, one Australian and one Scottish. In doing so he has defeated some high class opposition.

He has won over $20 million in prize money and represent...

NEVILLE LECK: JACK NICKLAUS: MAN IN MANY MILLIONS

19-01-2010 14:36

There is so much you can say about Jack Nicklaus, who at 70 can still claim to be the greatest golfer of all time.

There are, of course, people, including himself, who feel he might not always be right up there on top of the pile, even in his own lifetime, but at the moment there is a huge question mark hanging over Tiger Woods, the only pursuer with any hope of surpassing Jack's incredible re...

DAVE TINDALL: LESSON NUMBER ONE

11-11-2009 12:06

At the end of the film, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, American Office star Steve Carell and the cast burst into joyful song after he finally gets laid.

And I had a very similar feeling of euphoria yesterday after finally biting the bullet and doing it with a pro.

Yes, somehow I had reached 40 years old and never had a golf lesson - a ridiculous state of affairs given that I had clearly reached a c...

MATTHEW FREEMANTLE: EASTERN PROMISES

07-10-2008 13:28

The Middle East has been attracting America for years. Its vast oil supply has been of particular interest to the US Government. Partly as a result, that region is now more appealing than ever to US golfers.
It is ironic that America's own spending on Middle Eastern oil, which in turn has enabled the region in general - and Dubai in particular - to construct first world cities in the desert, is n...
